When I went back out to my truck, other students were starting to arrive.

내가 트럭에 다시 오를 무렵엔 다른 학생들도 등교하기 시작했다. 

 

 

I drive around the school, following the line of traffic.

 

줄지어 늘어선 자동차를 따라 학교를 돌았다.

 

 

I was glad to see the most of the cars were older like mine, nothing flashy.

 

자동차가 대부분 내 트럭처럼 낡고 소박한 걸 보니 마음이 놓였다.

▶ flashy 화려한, 강렬한

 

 

At home I'd lived in one of the few lower- income neighborhoods that were included in the Paradise Vally District.

 

피닉스에서는 파라다이스 밸리 구역에서 몇 안 되는 가난한 동네에 살았다.

 

 

It was a common things to see a new Mercedes or Porsche in the student lot.

 

학생 전용 주차장에서 신형 벤츠나 포르셰 자동차를 흔히 볼 수 있었다.

 

 

The nicest car here was a shiny volvo, and it stood out.

 

여기선 가장 좋은 차가 번쩍이는 볼보 정도였는데도 눈에 확 띄었다.

▶ stand out 두드러지다, 뛰어나다

 

 

Still, I cut the engin as soon as I was in a spot, so that the thunderous volume wouldn't draw attention to me.

 

그래도, 주차할 곳에 자리를 잡자마자, 천동 같은 엔진 소리 때문에 사람들 시선이 나에게 쏠리지 않도록 시동을 얼른 껐다.
